SICILY. Katane. Circa 405-403/2 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 4.00 g, 6 h), unsigned dies in the style of Euainetos. KATANAIΩ/N Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to right, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying left, crowning the charioteer with a wreath. Rev. AMENANOΣ Head of the river-god Amenanos to left, wearing tainia; two fish and crayfish around. HGC 2, 582. Rizzo pl. XIV, 8 (same obverse die). SNG ANS 1263 (same dies). SNG Copenhagen 181. SNG Lloyd 906. Rare. A beautifully toned example of this lovely issue, struck from dies of very fine style. Somewhat rough, otherwise, good very fine.
